Mr. Squirrel

This little guy's acorn can actually hold a votive candle, and he was a wedding present from a dear friend. At present, as you can see, he's acting as a door stopper to hold the door leading to the back stair and porch open. He fulfills this role admirably. Much more interesting than a regular rubber wedge.

I am contemplating putting cat treats in there at random times, mostly because I think it would be cute to see the cats check the votive all the time to see if a treat has shown up. Like checking the change slot on a vending machine - it's pretty rare that someone forgets to take their change, but it's still worth checking!

Also, I need a new camera, or at least a tripod, because this one takes really really blurry pictures without the flash, and it sucks to download a bunch of pictures you thought would be awesome only to find that they look like they were taken through a thick veil of Vaseline. Obviously a tripod would be cheaper but - also obviously - I would really like a new camera... one that I could upgrade with wide angle and macro lenses. The current one is a hand-me-down from Mom and it was state of the art in 2003, but it's starting to show its age. I would also like five hundred dollars to purchase said camera, but none of this is very likely to occur.

Mr. Squirrel! But a slight correction: He is a wedding present holder, until the real thing comes along. But I'm so glad he's making himself useful in the meantime.

I think it was Kitt has a really cool bendy adjustable tripod and it's also reasonable. In the meantime.

I love the squirrel. You could also put a little cup of water there. Rachel read somewhere that putting bowls of water at odd places around the house...changing them often and moving them around...gets cats to drink more water. Which, of course, is good for their little knidleys...

I love this "posting every day" thing you have going on.

But I heart Mr. Squirrel and I wasn't about to denigrate him by saying that he was only a placeholder for a real wedding present!

We have several bowls of water strategically placed throughout the house (like, right where you can kick them over accidentally) and it seems to help. Apparently cats also dislike having their water and their food right next to each other.

And I'm enjoying posting every day, too, so I'm glad y'all are getting something out of it. It's kind of a good way to flex my writing muscles and plus - comments! Comments are the bestest.

oh yeah - that Gorilla tripod that Kitt has is totally what I've got my eye on. I should just get it, no doubt I'll still need it when I've upgraded to a better camera anyway.

What a cute squirrel! Excellent doorstop. (I use my compact OED or Proust for that.)

Yes, the Gorillapod is quite handy. But a lot of times I just set the camera on something or brace it against a a solid object and use the 2-second timer to prevent jiggling. My camera's about the same vintage.

Yay for Mr. Squirrel! He reminds me of a cast iron hedgehog I used to know. I like the idea of surprise treats or water in the cup - Mr. Squirrel sez "Princess Zoe, I am pleased to present you with this humble offering."

And I didn't know that about cats and found water. Or water next to kibble. Explains why the FKB prefer the cup of water I keep in the sink for them.

We have bowls of water out everywhere for the cats, but what they really want is for me to run water in the bathroom sink for them. They come tearing in every time it even looks like I might walk in there.

I totally don't know how to use the 2 second timer thingie, but I'll see if I can figure it out, since I've got Kitt's pictures as an example of what can be done.

Inty is obsessed with being petted in the bathroom. As soon as you go in there she's right up in your face, screaming to be petted. It would be pretty cute if I didn't usually have specific tasks to accomplish in the bathroom.
